The HANGA can be made with many different types of surface decoration (and other shapes will be designed in the future). One photograph has been selected to represent each type in the descriptions below. As each HANGA is hand-made, no two are identical, and a wide range of colour combinations are available.
Plain – just one single colour; virtually any shade can be mixed and pearlescent clay can also be added for a lustrous sheen
Marbled – several colours are randomly mixed to create a streaked or marbled effect; these can be harmonious or contrasting colours
Klimt – a geometric pattern of concentric squares; using four or five contrasting colours
Metal leaf – gold, silver, copper or multi-coloured metal leaf rolled over a single background colour
Textured – the design is impressed into the surface of plain or marbled clay and may be further high-lighted by a metallic or accent colour
Graded – a graded blend of two or more colours; these may be harmonious or contrasting colours
Image transfer – a photograph or other image can be transferred onto a light background colour
Relief – moulded design elements are applied to plain or marbled clay and may be further high-lighted by metallic or accent colours
