Successful debut results in Trade Mark registration

The debut of the HANGA brooch/pendant at Mission Bay, yesterday, was a very successful event. It attracted a lot of interest and, in addition to sales, some very positive and useful feedback was gained. On the strength of this an application has been submitted today, to the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ), to register the name 'HANGA' as a Trade Mark.

POST NOTE November, 11, 2011: Although I made up the name HANGA, according to the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand, it is Maori word meaning
  • build, create, make, construct
  • utensil
Therefore, as HANGA simply describes the nature of the goods, namely a clothing accessory 'utensil', created for the purpose of hanging items from it, it does not qualify to be registered as a Trade Mark.
